The inherent challenge of any contemporary
African-American painter or sculptor, is the task of reconciling western values
with their African roots. The work
of Dr. John T. Scott brings these two realms together with poetic eloquence.
His insightful use of line and patterning infuse the work with a vigorous
enthusiasm. Dr. Scott is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including
a 1992 John D. MacArthur Fellowship. He has also been a Professor of Fine arts
at Xavier University since 1965.
