The
work of Renee Stout delves into the realm of spirit. The artist’s search for meaning, history and connection by
way of the spiritual world has produced a body of work which encompasses the
viewer in an amazingly beautiful, intriguing and introspective journey.
“What stimulates my imagination is not actually knowing.
Because there is a mystery, there are no rules set, I am free to use my
own imagination.” Although
primarily known for her assemblages and sculpture, Ms. Stout’s roots are in
painting. Her skills as a draftspersons play a strong role in much of
her work.
Stout’s
solo exhibitions include the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pa. and the
Kornblatt and Chapel Galleries, Washington D.C. Group shows have included the Anacostia Museum, the Martin
Luther King Public Library. Stout’s
work is in the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, Texas; Allegheny
Community College, and many private collections.
She was the honored recipient of the African-American Master Artists in
Residency Program, Northeastern University, Boston.
